Course Description:
The Postgraduate Diploma Diabetes programme is designed specifically for Primary Care Physicians and Nurses with specialist experience e.g. at specialist, consultant or practitioner level, to build on your existing knowledge, skills and
experience and develop mastery in the clinical and service aspects of Diabetes.

Topics include:Epidemiology of diabetes,
pathology of diabetes, type 1 and 2 diabetes,
Blood pressure and lipids, diabetic retinopathy,
diabetic nephropathy, diabetic microvascular
disease, diabetic neuropathies, monitoring
diabetes, erectile dysfunction, hypoglycaemia,
DK and hyperosmolar states, diabetes and
pregnancy, diabetes and concurrent disease,
diabetes in the elderly, insulin initiation, diabetic
foot problems, diabetes and driving, polycystic
ovarian syndrome, obesity, dyslipidaemia and
osteoporosis
Module 3: Clinical Practice in Diabetes
Clinical skills related to the following procedures.
These are presented as a series of specially
selected key video clips to enable you to
understand the procedure and the steps required.
You are strongly recommended to access hands
on clinical sessions with a local clinical specialist
to further enhance your skills:
a. Monitoring
Urinalysis, capillary blood glucometer(calibration
7 differences between different makes/models),
Use of CGMs (Fitting, downloading,
interpretation), Use of near patient HbA1c
monitor e.g. DCA2000.
b. Insulin administration
Loading reusable insulin pens (Novo Nord Disk,
Lilly, Sanofi …)
Use of disposable and reusable insulin pen
devices.
c. Dynamic tests
How to perform & interpret an oral glucose
tolerance test (OGTT)
How to perform and interpret an insulin tolerance
test (ITT)
d. Clinical Examination
Dilate eyes
Perform dilated fundoscopy
How to interpret retinal images from a screening
episode (e.g. R0, R1, R2 and R3 as well as M0
and M1 differences)
Foot examination
Autonomic function testing
Visual field testing
Eligibility Criteria:
Medical graduate (MBBS) with at least 3 years of Experience as primary care physician/clinical
Certificate – You will receive a “Post Graduate Diploma in Diabetology” (Online) after successful
completion of this course.
